Showers in Several Districts, Fair Conditions Elsewhere Over Next 36 Hours
Issued at 04.00 p.m. on 21 December 2025
The Department of Meteorology forecasts mixed weather conditions across Sri Lanka during the next 36 hours, with spells of showers expected in several regions while mainly fair weather will prevail in other parts of the island.

Several spells of showers are forecast for the Uva Province and the Ampara, Batticaloa, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, and Hambantota districts, where intermittent rainfall may occur.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may develop at a few locations in the Sabaragamuwa Province and in the Galle, Matara, and Kalutara districts, particularly after 2.00 p.m.

Most other areas of Sri Lanka are expected to experience mainly fair weather during this period.
Fairly strong winds of around 40 kmph can be expected at times over the eastern slopes of the central hills, as well as in the Northern, Eastern, North-Central, and North-Western Provinces, including the Hambantota and Monaragala districts.
In addition, misty conditions may occur in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central Provinces, along with Galle and Matara, during the early morning hours, which may reduce visibility.
The general public is advised to take necessary safety precautions to minimize potential damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
