Showery Conditions to Intensify from December 16 Due to Easterly Wave
Issued at 05.30 a.m. on 15 December 2025 — The Meteorology Department says showery conditions across the island are expected to intensify from tomorrow (December 16) under the influence of an Easterly wave.
Several spells of showers are forecast for the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva and Central provinces. Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are likely to occur at several places in other parts of the country after 1.00 p.m.
Fairly strong winds of around 30–40 kmph can be expected at times over the eastern slopes of the central hills, as well as in the Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces. Similar wind conditions are also likely in the Trincomalee, Hambantota and Monaragala districts.
Misty conditions are expected during the early morning hours at some places in the Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, and in the Galle and Matara districts.
The general public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
