Colombo, December 11, 2025 — The Department of Meteorology has issued a 36-hour weather forecast warning of widespread rainfall across Sri Lanka, urging the public to remain cautious amid risks of localized strong winds and lightning.
According to the forecast issued at 4:00 p.m. today, most parts of the island will experience showers throughout the day, signalling continued wet conditions brought on by prevailing weather patterns.
Tomorrow’s Weather Outlook
Meteorologists expect showers or thundershowers at times in the Northern and North-Central provinces, as well as in the Puttalam and Trincomalee districts.
Meanwhile, several spells of showers have been forecast for the Central and Uva provinces, and for the Kurunegala, Ampara and Batticaloa districts.
In the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, along with Galle and Matara, showers or thundershowers are likely to develop after 1:00 p.m., continuing the trend of afternoon and evening downpours.
Additional Weather Conditions
Authorities have also cautioned that misty conditions can be expected during the early morning hours in parts of the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces, potentially affecting visibility for motorists.
The Met Department advised the public to take adequate safety measures, especially during thundershowers, due to the possibility of temporary strong winds and lightning.
Residents in affected regions are encouraged to stay updated through official weather bulletins and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
