Rough Seas and Strong Winds Forecast Around Island Over Next 24 Hours

The Department of Meteorology has forecast rough sea conditions and strong winds in several sea areas around the island during the next 24 hours.
Showers are expected at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Mannar, Kankasanthurai and Trincomalee. Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the other sea areas around the island, particularly during the evening or night.
Winds will be predominantly north-easterly, with speeds ranging between 30 and 40 kmph. Wind speeds may increase up to 50–55 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast from Colombo to Trincomalee via Puttalam and Kankasanthurai, as well as from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
The sea areas off the coast from Colombo to Trincomalee via Puttalam and Kankasanthurai, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil, are expected to be rough at times. Other sea areas around the island will experience moderate sea conditions.
The Meteorology Department warns that temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can occur during thundershowers, and advises naval and fishing communities to remain vigilant and take necessary safety precautions.
