Showers Expected in Several Regions Across Sri Lanka on January 30
Weather conditions across Sri Lanka on January 30, 2026, are expected to remain partly unsettled, with rainfall forecast in multiple regions, according to the latest update issued on January 29 at 4.00 p.m. Several spells of showers are expected in the Eastern and Uva provinces, as well as in the Matale and Nuwara Eliya districts, bringing wet weather to both coastal and central highland areas.
Meanwhile, a few showers may occur in the Northern and North-Central provinces and in the Hambantota district. In the Sabaragamuwa Province, along with the Kalutara, Galle and Matara districts, showers or thundershowers are likely at a few places after 4.00 p.m., which may affect evening activities in these regions.
During the early morning hours, misty conditions are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western provinces, as well as in Badulla, Galle, Matara and Anuradhapura districts, potentially reducing visibility for motorists.
The general public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize possible damage caused by localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
For marine areas, showers may occur at a few places in the sea regions extending from Hambantota to Trincomalee via Batticaloa. North-easterly winds are expected to blow at speeds of 30–40 kmph, occasionally strengthening to 45–50 kmph in waters from Kalutara to Mannar via Colombo and Puttalam, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
As a result, these sea areas may become fairly rough at times, while other surrounding waters will remain moderate, prompting caution for fishing and maritime activities.
