Showery weather will continue to affect several parts of Sri Lanka on 19 February 2026, particularly in the North-Central, Central, Uva and Eastern provinces. Showers will occur at times in these areas as well as in the Hambantota District, bringing periods of steady rainfall throughout the day.
Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely at some locations in the Uva Province and in the Matale, Batticaloa, Ampara and Polonnaruwa districts. Residents in these regions are advised to remain cautious, especially in areas prone to flooding or minor landslides. Water levels in low-lying areas and small streams may rise temporarily during intense showers.
In the Northern Province, several spells of showers are expected during the day, contributing to the overall wet conditions across the island. Meanwhile, in other provinces, showers or thundershowers may develop at several places after 1.00 p.m. These afternoon thundershowers could be accompanied by temporary localized strong winds and lightning. The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize potential damage and to avoid open areas during lightning activity.
Misty conditions are likely during the early morning hours in parts of the Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts. Drivers, particularly in hilly and inland areas, should exercise caution due to reduced visibility.
Regarding sea areas around the island during the next 24 hours, the low-pressure area continues to persist over the southwest Bay of Bengal, southeast of Sri Lanka. Naval and fishing communities are urged to stay attentive to future forecasts and bulletins issued by the Department of Meteorology.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in sea areas extending from Galle to Trincomalee via Hambantota and Batticaloa. Winds will be north-easterly at 30–40 kmph, increasing up to 50 kmph at times in sea areas from Colombo to Mannar via Puttalam and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. These areas may experience fairly rough seas, while other sea areas around the island will remain moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas are possible during thundershowers.
