Showers Expected to Return Across Several Parts of Sri Lanka on January 23
Showery weather conditions are expected to develop across several regions of Sri Lanka from this evening, January 23, according to the latest forecast issued at 5.30 a.m. Showers will occur at times in the Northern, North-Central and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Matale and Nuwara Eliya districts, bringing relief after recent dry conditions. Additionally, a few showers are likely in the Uva and North-Western provinces, while isolated showers or thundershowers may occur elsewhere during the evening or nighttime.
Residents in the Nuwara Eliya district are advised to remain cautious during the early morning hours, as there is a possibility of ground frost in some locations. Meanwhile, misty conditions are expected in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western and Uva provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts, which may reduce visibility for motorists and commuters.
For sea areas around the island, showers or thundershowers are forecast at several places in waters off the coast extending from Mannar to Trincomalee via Kankasanthurai. North-easterly to northerly winds will blow at speeds of 30 to 40 kmph, occasionally strengthening up to 45 kmph in sea areas from Mannar to Galle via Colombo.
Sea conditions in these areas are expected to be fairly rough at times, while other surrounding waters will remain moderate. Fishermen and naval operators are advised to remain alert and follow safety guidance during unsettled weather.
