Showery Conditions Ease Across Sri Lanka as Fair Weather Returns
Showery weather conditions across Sri Lanka are expected to reduce from today, January 15, according to the latest forecast issued by the Department of Meteorology at 5.30 a.m. Improved weather conditions will bring relief to many parts of the island after several days of unsettled conditions.
However, showers or thundershowers may still occur at a few isolated locations, particularly in the Kalutara, Galle, Matara and Rathnapura districts, mainly after 4.00 p.m. Meanwhile, mainly fair weather is expected to prevail across most other areas of the country during the day.
Misty conditions are likely during the early morning hours in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Northwestern provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts, which may affect visibility, especially in hilly and low-lying regions.
Meanwhile, marine weather conditions around the island are expected to remain moderately unsettled during the next 24 hours. Showers or thundershowers may develop at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Matara via Galle, particularly during the evening or night.
Winds over sea areas will be north-easterly, with speeds ranging between 25 and 35 kmph. At times, wind speeds may increase up to 50 kmph, especially in sea areas extending from Colombo to Mannar via Puttalam and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Sea conditions in these regions are expected to be fairly rough at times, while other sea areas will remain slight to moderate.
Fishermen and naval communities are advised to exercise caution during periods of strong winds and thundershowers.
