Sri Lanka is expected to experience a noticeable increase in afternoon thundershowers from today, 01 October, as atmospheric conditions become more favorable for rainfall across most parts of the island. Showers or thundershowers will occur in most areas after 1.00 p.m.
Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is possible at some locations in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Eastern and North Central provinces, as well as in Mannar district. These areas should be prepared for periods of intense rainfall during the afternoon and evening. Temporary localized strong winds and lightning may accompany thundershowers, and the public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize possible damage.
Misty conditions are expected in some areas of the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces during the early morning hours. Reduced visibility may occur in these locations, particularly along roads in elevated areas.

Sea Areas Around Sri Lanka
During the next 24 hours, a few showers or thundershowers may develop in the sea areas extending from Mullaittivu to Pottuvil via Trincomalee and Batticaloa during the evening or night.
Winds will be south-westerly, with speeds of 20–30 kmph. Sea conditions around Sri Lanka are expected to remain slight. However, temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can occur during thundershowers. Marine communities are advised to remain attentive to changing weather conditions.
