The Department of Meteorology forecasts several spells of showers across parts of Sri Lanka on 27 July 2026, while mainly dry weather is expected to prevail over much of the island. A slight increase in rainfall is also anticipated in the southwestern region over the next few days, beginning 28 July, bringing wetter conditions to several districts.
According to the latest forecast, intermittent showers will affect the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, as well as the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts. Residents in these areas should be prepared for occasional rain throughout the day. In contrast, most other parts of the country will experience predominantly dry weather with periods of sunshine.
Strong winds remain a key weather concern. Wind speeds of 40–50 kmph are expected at times over the western slopes of the Central Hills, the Northern and North-Central provinces, and in the Hambantota, Trincomalee and Puttalam districts. People in these areas are advised to secure loose outdoor items and remain cautious, especially when traveling.
Sea Areas Forecast
Marine conditions are expected to be unsettled around parts of the island. A few showers may occur in the sea areas extending from Negombo to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
Southwesterly winds will blow at 30–40 kmph, increasing to 50–60 kmph at times in the sea areas from Hambantota to Pottuvil. Winds may also strengthen up to 50 kmph in the sea areas from Chilaw to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanthurai, and from Galle to Hambantota.
The sea will be rough at times off the coast from Hambantota to Pottuvil, while fairly rough conditions are expected in the sea areas from Chilaw to Trincomalee and from Galle to Hambantota. Wave heights may reach 2.0 to 2.5 meters from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
Fishermen, naval operators, and other marine users are advised to exercise caution due to strong winds, rough seas, and elevated wave heights.
