Showery weather is expected to affect several parts of Sri Lanka on 26 September, with showers occurring at times in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya. Meanwhile, a few showers or thundershowers may develop in the Uva Province and in the Batticaloa and Ampara districts after 2.00 p.m.
The public is advised to remain cautious during thundershowers, as temporary localized strong winds and lightning may occur. Appropriate precautions should be taken to minimize possible damage and disruptions.
Sea Areas Forecast
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle during the next 24 hours.
South-westerly winds are expected, with speeds of around 30–40 kmph. Wind speeds may occasionally increase to 50–60 kmph in the sea areas extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
These stronger winds will make some sea areas fairly rough at times. In particular, the wave height may increase to around 2.0–2.5 metres in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Matara. Other areas may also experience temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas during thundershowers.
Fishing and naval communities are advised to remain attentive to changing sea conditions and follow the latest weather information when planning marine activities.
