A flood warning has been issued for the Divisional Secretariat Divisions of Ganga Ihala Korale, Udapalatha, Doluwa, Udunuwara, Yatinuwara, Gangawata Korale, Harispattuwa, and Pathadumbara following heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas of the Mahaweli River.
The rainfall recorded over the past few hours has increased the risk of minor flooding in low-lying areas located around the Mahaweli River within these divisions.
Residents in the affected areas are urged to remain highly vigilant and take necessary precautions as the situation develops. Motorists travelling along roads in and around these areas are also advised to exercise extreme caution, particularly when passing through low-lying sections that could be affected by rising water levels.
People living close to the Mahaweli River should closely monitor the situation and be prepared to take appropriate safety measures if water levels continue to rise. Residents are advised to stay alert and follow any instructions issued by local authorities and disaster management officials.
Meanwhile, the relevant disaster management authorities have been requested to take all necessary measures to respond to the situation and ensure the safety of people living in vulnerable areas.
