Fairly Heavy Showers Above 75mm Expected in Northern and North-Central Provinces

Colombo: The Department of Meteorology announced that the Northeast monsoon has now set in across Sri Lanka, bringing widespread rainfall and windy conditions to several regions of the island.

According to the Met Department, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Central, North-Western and Uva Provinces in the coming hours.
Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely in parts of the Northern and North-Central Provinces, as well as the Trincomalee District.

Other regions of the island may also experience showers or thundershowers after 1.00 p.m. tomorrow, with some areas expected to receive fairly heavy showers above 50 mm.

Meanwhile, strong winds between 30–40 km/h are expected at times in the Northern, North-Central and North-Western Provinces, the Trincomalee District, and the eastern slopes of the central hills.

The Department of Meteorology urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimize risks from temporary strong winds, lightning, and localized impacts during thundershowers.
