Heavy Rain Likely in Southern Areas

The Department of Meteorology forecasts unsettled weather conditions across several parts of Sri Lanka today, with multiple spells of showers, localized heavy rainfall, and misty conditions expected in the early morning.
Several spells of showers may occur in the Central, Uva, and Eastern Provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa and Mullaittivu districts, bringing intermittent rainfall to these regions.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are expected at a few locations in the Southern Province and in the Kalutara and Ratnapura districts after 2.00 p.m.
Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely at some places in the Galle and Matara districts, increasing the risk of localized flooding in low-lying areas.
Most other parts of the island are expected to experience mainly fair weather throughout the day.
In addition, misty conditions may occur during the early morning hours in parts of the Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces, as well as in Kalutara, Badulla, Galle, and Matara districts, which could affect visibility for motorists.
The general public is advised to remain alert to weather updates and take necessary precautions, particularly in areas prone to heavy rainfall.
