The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued Level III (Red) landslide early warnings for parts of Kandy, Kegalle and Nuwara Eliya districts.
The warnings are effective from 2:00 p.m. on September 20, 2026, until 2:00 p.m. on September 21, 2026.
According to the NBRO, Level III (Red) landslide warnings have been issued for Pasbage Korale and surrounding areas in the Kandy District; Dehiowita, Aranayake, Deraniyagala, Mawanella and Yatiyanthota in the Kegalle District; and Kothmale West, Kotmale East, Ambagamuwa and Norwood in the Nuwara Eliya District.
Meanwhile, Level II (Amber) landslide warnings have been issued for several areas across the Colombo, Galle, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, Matara, Nuwara Eliya and Ratnapura districts.
These include Padukka in Colombo; Nagoda, Thawalama and Neluwa in Galle; Bulathsinhala, Palindanuwara, Walallawita and Agalawatta in Kalutara; Ganga Ihala Korale in Kandy; Bulathkohupitiya and Kegalle in Kegalle; Akuressa and Pitabeddara in Matara; Thalawakele in Nuwara Eliya; and Pelmadulla, Ratnapura, Ayagama and Kuruwita in Ratnapura.
A Level I (Yellow) landslide warning has also been issued for a number of areas. These include Seethawaka in Colombo; Niyagama and Baddegama in Galle; Mirigama in Gampaha; Ingiriya in Kalutara; Udapalatha and Yatinuwara in Kandy; Galigamuwa, Warakapola and Ruwanwella in Kegalle; Kotapola, Pasgoda and Athuraliya in Matara; and Eheliyagoda, Kalawana and Elapatha in Ratnapura.
Residents in areas under these warnings are advised to remain alert to changing conditions, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall. People living near slopes, cut slopes and other vulnerable locations should take necessary precautions and follow instructions issued by local authorities.
