Sri Lanka is expected to experience unsettled weather conditions on 06 June 2026, with showers, thundershowers, strong winds, and rough seas affecting many parts of the country. According to the latest forecast, rainfall activity will continue over the southwestern regions, bringing wet and windy conditions to several provinces and districts.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya. Fairly heavy rainfall of about 75 mm is likely in some locations within these areas. Residents are advised to remain alert, especially in low-lying and landslide-prone regions where localized flooding and water accumulation may occur.
Strong winds are also expected across the island. Wind speeds of 40–50 kmph can occur at times over the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern and North-Central provinces, and in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. Other parts of the country may experience fairly strong winds ranging between 30–40 kmph. The public is urged to take precautions against falling trees, damaged structures, and lightning associated with thundershowers.

Sea conditions around Sri Lanka are expected to remain hazardous during the next 24 hours. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in sea areas extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.
South-westerly winds will prevail over surrounding sea areas with speeds of 30–40 kmph. Wind speeds may increase significantly, reaching 60–70 kmph at times in the sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Kalpitiya via Mannar. Winds may also strengthen up to 50–60 kmph in waters extending from Trincomalee to Kankasanthurai via Mullaitivu and from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota.
The sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Kalpitiya via Mannar will be very rough at times, while other surrounding sea areas may become rough to very rough. Wave heights could rise to 2.0–2.5 meters in the sea areas from Mannar to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota. Nearshore waters from Chilaw to Matara may also experience sea surges.
Fishermen, naval operators, and coastal communities are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution and monitor weather updates regularly.
