Sri Lanka is expected to experience unsettled weather conditions on 06 June 2026, with showers, thundershowers, strong winds, and rough sea conditions affecting many parts of the island. Residents, fishermen, and travelers are advised to remain alert as the southwest monsoon continues to influence weather patterns across the country.
According to the forecast, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya. Fairly heavy rainfall of around 75 mm is likely in several locations within these areas, which could lead to localized flooding in low-lying regions and temporary disruptions to transport.
Strong winds are also expected across the island. Wind speeds of 40–50 kmph may occur at times over the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern and North-Central provinces, and in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. Other parts of the country can expect fairly strong winds ranging between 30–40 kmph.
The public is advised to take precautions against possible damage caused by strong winds, lightning, and falling trees during thundershower activity. Motorists should exercise caution, especially in areas experiencing heavy rain and reduced visibility.
