Sri Lanka is expected to experience unsettled weather conditions on 07 June 2026, with widespread showers, strong winds, and rough seas affecting many parts of the island. Residents are advised to remain vigilant as heavy rainfall and gusty winds could cause localized disruptions.
According to the latest forecast, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya. Heavy rainfall of around 100 mm is likely in several of these areas, increasing the risk of localized flooding, waterlogging, and minor landslides, particularly in low-lying and hilly regions.
A few showers are also expected in the Anuradhapura district. Meanwhile, strong winds ranging between 40 and 50 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern and North-Central provinces, and the districts of Hambantota and Trincomalee. Other parts of the island may experience fairly strong winds of 30 to 40 kmph.
The public is strongly advised to take necessary precautions against lightning strikes, falling branches, temporary structures, and other hazards associated with strong winds and thunderstorms.

Sea Areas Forecast
Weather conditions at sea are expected to remain hazardous over the next 24 hours. Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.
Winds will be south-westerly with speeds of 30 to 40 kmph. However, wind speeds may increase significantly in some coastal waters. Gusts of 60 to 70 kmph are expected in the sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Kalpitiya via Mannar, while speeds of 50 to 60 kmph are likely from Trincomalee to Kankasanthurai via Mullaittivu and from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota.
The sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Kalpitiya via Mannar will be very rough at times. Other sea areas around the island will be rough to fairly rough. Wave heights may increase to about 2.0 to 2.5 meters in waters extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota.
Fishermen, naval operators, and marine communities are advised to exercise extreme caution, as strong gusty winds and very rough seas can develop during thundershowers.
