The Department of Meteorology forecasts continued wet and windy conditions across several parts of Sri Lanka on 01 June 2026, as the southwest monsoon remains active over the island.
Showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya. Residents in these areas can expect periods of rainfall throughout the day. Meanwhile, a few showers or thundershowers may develop after 1.00 p.m. in the Uva Province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts.
In addition to the rainfall, fairly strong winds with speeds of 30–40 kmph are expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern, North-Central, North-Western and Southern provinces, and in the Trincomalee district. The public is advised to take precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning that may accompany thundershowers.

Marine Weather Warning
Weather conditions at sea are expected to be challenging during the next 24 hours. Showers or thundershowers may occur in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.
Winds will be southwesterly with speeds of 30–40 kmph. Wind speeds may increase significantly up to 60–65 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast from Mullaittivu to Chilaw via Kankasanthurai and Mannar, and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota. In other surrounding sea areas, winds can strengthen up to 50 kmph.
The sea areas off these coasts will be very rough at times, while other surrounding sea areas will remain fairly rough. Wave heights are expected to increase to around 2.0–2.5 metres in the sea areas from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
Naval, fishing and maritime communities are advised to exercise extreme caution, as temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can occur during thundershowers.
