The Road Development Authority (RDA) has issued a special notice urging motorists to exercise extreme caution while travelling on expressways due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions across the country. With heavy rainfall affecting many areas, drivers are advised to pay close attention to warning and cautionary messages displayed on electronic signboards along expressways.
According to the RDA, reduced visibility and slippery road surfaces caused by continuous rain have increased the risk of accidents. Motorists are therefore instructed to switch on vehicle headlights while driving and maintain a maximum speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour for safety.
Drivers have also been advised to maintain a safe distance between vehicles to avoid sudden collisions during wet conditions. The authority emphasized that sudden braking on rain-soaked roads could cause vehicles to skid, potentially resulting in serious accidents on expressways.
Officials further requested motorists to remain alert, avoid unnecessary lane changes and ensure that vehicle tires and brakes are in proper condition before beginning long-distance travel. Extra care should also be taken near bends, entry and exit points and waterlogged sections of roads.
The warning comes as heavy showers and strong winds continue to affect several provinces due to active monsoon conditions. Authorities urge the public to prioritize safety and follow all traffic instructions until weather conditions improve.
