Rough Sea Conditions Expected in Several Coastal Areas Over Next 24 Hours

The Department of Meteorology has warned of unsettled sea conditions around parts of Sri Lanka during the next 24 hours, advising fishermen and naval communities to remain cautious.
According to the forecast, showers are expected at a few locations in sea areas from Mannar to Pottuvil via Kankasanthurai and Trincomalee. In addition, showers or isolated thundershowers may develop during the evening or night in the sea areas from Kalutara to Hambantota via Galle.
Winds will generally be north-easterly, with speeds ranging between 30 and 40 kmph. However, stronger winds reaching 45–50 kmph are expected at times in the sea areas from Colombo to Mannar via Puttalam, as well as from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
Due to these conditions, the sea will be fairly rough at times in the above-mentioned coastal stretches. Other surrounding sea areas are expected to remain moderate, though conditions may change rapidly during thundershowers.
Mariners, small fishing boat operators, and coastal communities are strongly advised to exercise caution, particularly during periods of strong winds, rough seas, and sudden thunderstorms.
