Sri Lanka Weather Forecast for 14 September 2026
Sri Lanka is expected to experience widespread unsettled weather on 14 September, with showers or thundershowers likely at several places across most parts of the island after 1.00 p.m. The afternoon and evening period is expected to bring increased rainfall activity, with some areas receiving particularly heavy rainfall.
Heavy falls exceeding 100 mm are likely at some places in the North-Central, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva and North-Western provinces. Residents in these areas should remain alert to changing weather conditions, especially during periods of intense rainfall. Showers are also expected in the Western Province and in the Galle and Matara districts during the morning hours.
The public is advised to take adequate precautions during thundershowers, as temporary localized strong winds and lightning may occur. People are encouraged to remain cautious in exposed areas and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during active thunderstorms.
Sea Areas Around Sri Lanka
Showers may occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Kankasanthurai to Hambantota via Puttalam, Colombo and Galle. Showers or thundershowers may also develop in a few other sea areas during the evening or night.
South-westerly winds are expected, with speeds of around 30–40 kmph. Wind speeds may occasionally increase up to 50 kmph in the sea areas extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
Marine conditions require particular attention, as wave heights may increase to around 2.0–3.0 metres in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Pottuvil via Galle, Matara and Hambantota. These sea areas may become rough at times.
Naval and fishing communities engaged in activities in these areas are advised to remain vigilant and closely monitor subsequent weather forecasts and advisories.
