SRI LANKA WEATHER FORECAST FOR 18 SEPTEMBER 2026

Sri Lanka is expected to experience a generally showery weather pattern on 18 September, with several areas receiving rain throughout the day. Showers will occur at times in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts.

Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is possible at some locations in the Galle, Matara, Kalutara and Ratnapura districts. Residents and motorists in these areas should remain alert to changing weather conditions. Several spells of showers are also expected in the North-Western Province.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are likely at several places in the Uva and Eastern provinces and in the Mullaittivu and Polonnaruwa districts after 1.00 p.m. Thundershowers may produce temporary localized strong winds and lightning, and the public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize possible damage.

Sea Areas Around Sri Lanka

Rainfall activity is also expected over several coastal and offshore areas during the next 24 hours. Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas extending from Negombo to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. A few showers or thundershowers may develop in other sea areas during the evening or night.

South-westerly winds are expected, with speeds of 25–35 kmph. Wind speeds may increase up to 55–60 kmph at times in the sea areas from Hambantota to Pottuvil. Winds may also reach up to 50 kmph from Galle to Hambantota and from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar.

Sea conditions will be rough at times from Hambantota to Pottuvil and fairly rough from Galle to Hambantota and Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas may occur during thundershowers.
