Sri Lanka is expected to experience a mix of showers, isolated thunderstorms, and strong winds on 11 July 2026, according to the latest weather forecast. Several spells of showers are forecast for the Sabaragamuwa Province and the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts, while a few showers may also occur in the Western and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.
Residents in the eastern part of the island, particularly in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts, should also be prepared for isolated showers or thundershowers after 2.00 p.m. Although rainfall is expected to be scattered, localized thunderstorms could bring brief periods of heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds.
Strong winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph are expected at times over the western slopes of the Central Hills, the North-Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces, and in the districts of Monaragala, Puttalam, Hambantota, Trincomalee, and Mannar. The public is advised to take necessary precautions to reduce the risk of damage caused by strong winds and lightning during thunderstorms.
Sea Conditions
For sea areas around Sri Lanka, showers or thundershowers may develop in the waters extending from Negombo to Galle via Colombo. South-westerly winds will range between 30 and 40 kmph, increasing to 50–60 kmph at times in the sea areas from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Mannar to Chilaw via Puttalam. Winds in other sea areas may also reach 50 kmph.
Sea conditions will be rough in these coastal waters, while other surrounding sea areas are expected to be fairly rough at times. Wave heights may increase to 2.0–2.5 metres in the sea area extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo. Fishermen, naval operators, and marine users are advised to remain alert, as temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas are possible during thundershowers.
