SRI LANKA WEATHER FORECAST FOR 07 JULY 2026

The Department of Meteorology forecasts a mix of light showers and strong winds across Sri Lanka on 07 July 2026. A few showers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts. While rainfall will be limited, windy conditions are expected to remain the main weather feature throughout the day.

Strong winds of 40–50 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the Central Hills, the Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces, and in the Ratnapura, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. Residents in these areas are advised to remain alert, as strong winds may affect travel, outdoor activities and temporary structures.

SEA CONDITIONS

For sea areas around the island, a few showers are likely off the coast from Chilaw to Galle via Colombo. South-westerly winds will prevail with speeds of 30–40 kmph, increasing to 55–65 kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Winds in other sea areas may also increase up to 50 kmph.

Sea conditions will be very rough in the coastal waters from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam and from Matara to Pottuvil. Other sea areas will remain fairly rough. Wave heights of 2.0 to 2.5 metres are expected from Chilaw to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota. Fishermen and naval communities are advised to exercise extreme caution before venturing into the sea.
