Several spells of showers are expected across parts of Sri Lanka on 18 June 2026, according to the latest weather forecast. The Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, along with the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya, are likely to experience intermittent rainfall throughout the day.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may develop at a few locations in the Uva Province and in the districts of Mullaittivu, Ampara and Batticaloa after 2.00 p.m. Residents in these areas are advised to stay alert for sudden weather changes during the afternoon and evening hours.
The Department of Meteorology has urged the public to take necessary precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning that may accompany thundershowers. Outdoor activities should be planned carefully, especially in areas prone to thunderstorms.
Sea Areas Forecast
Weather conditions at sea are expected to remain unsettled, particularly in the western, southern and northwestern coastal waters. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
Winds will be south-westerly with speeds of 30–40 kmph. Wind speeds may increase up to 50–60 kmph at times in the sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Kalpitiya via Mannar and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Winds may also reach up to 50 kmph in the waters from Trincomalee to Kankasanthurai via Mullaittivu and from Kalpitiya to Galle via Colombo.
As a result, sea conditions will be rough at times in the affected areas, while other nearby sea regions will remain fairly rough. Fishermen and naval communities are advised to exercise caution, as strong gusty winds and very rough seas can occur during thundershowers.
