SRI LANKA WEATHER FORECAST FOR TOMORROW,08 JUNE 2026

The Department of Meteorology has forecast continued unsettled weather conditions across several parts of Sri Lanka on 08 June 2026, with showers, thunderstorms, strong winds, and rough seas expected in many areas.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely in these areas, raising the possibility of localized flooding and disruptions to outdoor activities. A few showers may also occur in the Anuradhapura and Hambantota districts.

Strong winds will continue to affect much of the island. Wind speeds of 40–50 kmph are expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern and North-Central provinces, and in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. Other parts of the country can expect fairly strong winds ranging between 30–40 kmph.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant and take precautions against temporary localized strong winds, lightning, and falling tree branches during thunderstorms. Travelers and motorists should also exercise caution, particularly in areas experiencing heavy rainfall.

Marine Weather Warning

Weather conditions at sea remain hazardous. Showers or thundershowers are expected at times in sea areas extending from Chilaw to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.

South-westerly winds will prevail, with speeds of 30–40 kmph. However, wind speeds could increase significantly, reaching 60–70 kmph in sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Kalpitiya via Mannar. Winds may also reach 50–60 kmph in sea areas from Trincomalee to Kankasanthurai via Mullaittivu and from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota.

The sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Kalpitiya via Mannar will be very rough at times. Naval and fishing communities are strongly advised not to venture into these waters until further notice. Rough seas are also expected in several other coastal areas, with wave heights reaching 2.0 to 2.5 meters from Mannar to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota.

Fishermen and maritime operators should closely monitor weather updates and exercise extreme caution during this period.
