SRI LANKA WEATHER FORECAST FOR TOMORROW,09 JUNE 2026

The Department of Meteorology forecasts wet and windy conditions across several parts of Sri Lanka on 09 June 2026, with showers, thundershowers, and strong winds expected to affect both land and sea areas.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely at some locations in the Sabaragamuwa Province and Kandy District. Meanwhile, a few showers may also occur in the Anuradhapura and Hambantota districts.

Strong winds will continue to influence many parts of the island. Wind speeds of 40–50 kmph are expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern and North-Central provinces, and in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. Other parts of the country can expect fairly strong winds ranging from 30–40 kmph.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant, particularly during thundershowers, as temporary localized strong winds and lightning may cause damage. Necessary precautions should be taken to ensure public safety

Sea Areas Forecast

Weather conditions at sea are expected to remain hazardous in several coastal regions. Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in sea areas extending from Chilaw to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.

South-westerly winds will prevail around the island, with speeds of 30–40 kmph. Wind speeds may increase to 60–70 kmph at times in sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Kalpitiya via Mannar. Winds may also reach 50–60 kmph in sea areas from Trincomalee to Kankasanthurai via Mullaittivu and from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota.

The sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Kalpitiya via Mannar will be very rough at times. Naval and fishing communities are strongly advised not to venture into these waters until further notice. Rough seas are also expected in several other coastal areas, while wave heights may increase to between 2.0 and 2.5 meters along the coast from Mannar to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota. Temporarily very rough seas and strong gusty winds are likely during thundershowers.
