The showery weather affecting Sri Lanka is expected to continue over the next few days as a low-level atmospheric disturbance near the island is likely to develop into a low-pressure area around 11 May. As a result, cloudy skies will dominate most parts of the country, bringing widespread rainfall and thunderstorms.
According to the forecast, showers or thundershowers will occur in most areas after 1.00 p.m. Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely at some locations, raising the risk of localized flooding and water accumulation in low-lying areas. Morning showers are also expected in the Western, Southern, Eastern and Northern provinces.
Residents are strongly advised to remain alert and take precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning that may accompany thunderstorms. Travelers should be prepared for wet road conditions and reduced visibility during intense showers.

Sea Areas Around Sri Lanka
Showers or thundershowers are expected in several sea areas around the island during the next 24 hours. Winds will be north-westerly or variable in direction with speeds of 20–30 kmph. Sea conditions will be slight to moderate, but temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can occur during thundershowers.
Fishermen and naval communities are advised to exercise caution when venturing into the sea.
