Showers or thundershowers are expected to occur in most parts of Sri Lanka after 1.00 p.m. today, bringing widespread afternoon rainfall across the island. According to the forecast, several areas may experience intense weather conditions during the day, particularly in the later hours.
Showers are also likely to occur in parts of the Southern Province during the morning hours, providing early rainfall before the main afternoon showers develop. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is expected at some locations in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, Uva, and North-Central provinces, as well as in the Kurunegala district. These heavy showers may be accompanied by strong winds and lightning.
Misty conditions are expected during the early morning in parts of the Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the districts of Anuradhapura, Kurunegala, and Badulla. Motorists are advised to exercise caution due to reduced visibility.
The general public is urged to take necessary precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Sea Areas Forecast (Next 24 Hours)
Showers or thundershowers are likely in sea areas extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota. Winds will be south-easterly or variable at 20–30 kmph. Sea conditions around the island will be slight, but temporarily strong gusty winds and rough seas may occur during thundershowers.
