Showers or thundershowers are expected to occur in most parts of Sri Lanka after 1.00 p.m. today, bringing widespread rainfall across the island. According to the forecast issued at 5.30 a.m., fairly heavy falls exceeding 75 mm are likely at some locations, particularly in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western and Southern provinces. Residents in these areas should remain alert as heavy rain may lead to localized flooding and temporary disruptions.
In addition, showers may occur in the coastal areas of the Southern Province and in the Kalutara district during the morning hours, even before the main afternoon rainfall begins. Early morning misty conditions are also expected in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-Central and Uva provinces, as well as in Vavuniya and Kurunegala districts. Motorists are advised to drive carefully due to reduced visibility during these hours.
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
