Showers or thundershowers are expected to occur at most places across Sri Lanka after 1.00 p.m. today, according to the latest forecast issued at 5.30 a.m. The prevailing atmospheric conditions are favorable for widespread afternoon and evening rainfall over the island.
Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely at some locations in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and Southern provinces. In addition, the Ampara and Batticaloa districts may also experience intense showers during the day. Morning showers are also possible in Batticaloa, Ampara and Hambantota districts, bringing early rainfall to these areas.
Misty conditions are expected during the early morning hours in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-Central and Uva provinces, as well as in the Vavuniya and Kurunegala districts. Motorists are advised to be cautious due to reduced visibility during these periods.
The general public is strongly advised to take necessary precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.

Sea Areas Forecast (Next 24 Hours)
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast from Hambantota to Batticaloa via Pottuvil. A few showers may also occur in other surrounding sea areas.
Winds will be variable in direction with speeds of 20–30 kmph. Sea conditions around the island will be slight, but temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
