Showers or thundershowers are expected to occur at several places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Southern provinces, as well as in the Nuwara Eliya district after 1.00 p.m. today. These afternoon showers may bring temporary heavy rainfall in localized areas, along with strong gusty winds and lightning. Residents in these regions are advised to remain cautious, especially during evening hours when thunderstorm activity is more likely to intensify.
In contrast, mainly dry weather will prevail across most other parts of the island, providing relatively stable and warm conditions. However, misty conditions can be expected during the early hours of the morning in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, and Kurunegala districts. Motorists are advised to drive carefully due to reduced visibility during early morning hours.
The Department of Meteorology further indicates that atmospheric conditions are becoming increasingly favorable for evening thundershowers across most parts of Sri Lanka from 20 April onwards. This suggests a gradual increase in rainfall activity in the coming days.
Sea Areas Forecast (Next 24 Hours)
A few showers or thundershowers are likely in the sea areas extending from Mannar to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. Winds will be south-easterly or variable in direction with speeds of 20–30 kmph. Sea conditions around the island will be slight, but temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
