Showers and thundershowers are expected to develop across several parts of Sri Lanka later today, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours. According to the forecast, rainfall activity will mainly affect the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, as well as the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya after 2.00 p.m.
Fairly heavy showers exceeding 50 mm are likely at some locations in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts. Residents in these areas are advised to remain cautious, as thundershowers may be accompanied by temporary localized strong winds and lightning.
Meanwhile, a few showers may also occur in the Uva and Eastern provinces. Most other parts of the island are expected to experience mainly fair weather conditions throughout the day.
Misty conditions may occur during the early morning hours in the Western, Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara and Kurunegala districts. Motorists are advised to exercise caution due to reduced visibility during these hours.
Sea Areas Forecast (Next 24 Hours)
Showers or thundershowers are likely in the sea areas from Colombo to Matara via Galle during the evening or night. Winds will be easterly to northeasterly at 20–30 kmph, and the sea condition around the island will remain slight. However, temporarily strong gusty winds and rough seas may occur during thundershowers.
