Nuwara Eliya District Secretary Thushari Tennakoon has urged motorists to avoid travelling to Nuwara Eliya during night-time hours due to the increased risk of landslides triggered by ongoing adverse weather conditions.
Addressing a media briefing at the Nuwara Eliya District Secretariat yesterday (11) afternoon, Tennakoon highlighted that an earth mound which collapsed along the Gampola–Nuwara Eliya main road at Katukithula has been temporarily cleared for traffic. However, she cautioned that the area remains unstable.
She warned that continued heavy rainfall could lead to further earth slips along several key access routes to the district, posing significant danger to night-time travellers.
