Sri Lanka is expected to experience wet and windy weather conditions on 04 June 2026, with the Department of Meteorology warning of heavy rainfall, strong winds, and rough seas in several parts of the country.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya. Heavy rainfall of about 100 mm is likely at some locations in these areas, raising the possibility of localized flooding and water accumulation in low-lying regions.
Meanwhile, a few showers or thundershowers may occur after 1.00 p.m. in Uva Province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts.
Strong winds are also expected across the island. Wind speeds of 40–50 kmph can occur at times over the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern and North-Central provinces, and in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. Other parts of the country may experience fairly strong winds ranging from 30–40 kmph.
Residents are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions against temporary localized strong winds, lightning, and heavy rainfall during thundershowers.
Sea Areas Forecast
Weather conditions at sea are expected to remain unsettled. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.
Southwesterly winds will prevail with speeds of 30–40 kmph, increasing up to 50–60 kmph at times in sea areas stretching from Mullaittivu to Pottuvil via Kankasanthurai, Mannar, Puttalam, Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
These sea areas will be rough at times, while other surrounding waters will remain moderate. Wave heights may increase to between 2.0 and 2.5 metres in sea areas from Mannar to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
Fishermen, naval operators and coastal communities are advised to exercise caution as temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough sea conditions can develop during thundershowers.
