SRI LANKA WEATHER FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, 13 OCTOBER 2026

ri Lanka is expected to experience widespread rainfall and thundershowers from 13 October 2026 as a low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeastern Bay of Bengal. The developing weather system could bring a significant increase in rainfall across the island and surrounding sea areas over the next few days.

The weather forecast, issued at 2.00 p.m. on 12 October, warns that heavy rainfall could affect several provinces, with some areas likely to receive between 100 and 150 millimetres of rain.

Heavy Rainfall Expected in Several Provinces

Showers or thundershowers are expected in most parts of Sri Lanka on Tuesday, 13 October. Heavy rainfall of around 100–150 mm is likely at some places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva and Southern provinces.

Meanwhile, fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is expected at some locations in other parts of the island. These conditions could bring periods of intense rain, particularly as the developing low-pressure system influences the region.

Misty conditions may also occur in parts of the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces during the early morning hours, potentially reducing visibility for motorists and other road users.

Public Advised to Take Precautions

The public is urged to take adequate precautions to minimize possible damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. Residents in areas expecting heavy rainfall should remain attentive to official weather updates and follow any advisories issued by the relevant authorities.

People are also encouraged to exercise caution when travelling during periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Sea Areas Forecast: Strong Winds and Rough Seas Possible

The Department of Meteorology has also warned of increasing rainfall over the deep and shallow sea areas surrounding Sri Lanka from 13 October.

Showers or thundershowers are expected across the surrounding sea areas. Winds will be north-easterly or variable, with speeds ranging from 20 to 30 kilometres per hour. Sea conditions are forecast to be slight to moderate under normal conditions.

However, temporarily strong gusty winds of 60–70 kmph and very rough seas may develop during thundershowers.

Naval and fishing communities are strongly advised to monitor weather forecasts and official bulletins issued by the Department of Meteorology before heading out to sea.

With the possibility of widespread rain and hazardous marine conditions, the public should remain alert as the weather system develops over the coming days.
