SRI LANKA WEATHER FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, 21 OCTOBER 2026

Sri Lanka is expected to experience intensified rainy weather on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, due to a low-level atmospheric disturbance prevailing near the island, warns of heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm in some areas, along with thunderstorms, strong winds and rough sea conditions.

Showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North Western and Northern provinces, as well as in the Anuradhapura District. Some locations in these areas could receive heavy rainfall above 100 mm, raising concerns about localized flooding and other weather-related disruptions.

In other parts of the island, showers or thundershowers are expected after 1.00 p.m. The public is advised to remain alert to changing weather conditions and take adequate precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thunderstorms.

Misty conditions may develop in some areas of the Central and Uva provinces during the early morning hours. Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully when visibility is reduced.

SEA AREA FORECAST

The atmospheric disturbance is also expected to enhance rainy conditions in the sea areas surrounding Sri Lanka from the evening of 20 October. Showers or thundershowers may occur at times in sea areas extending from Mullaitivu to Galle via Kankasanthurai, Puttalam and Colombo.

Winds over the surrounding sea areas are expected to be westerly to southwesterly, with speeds ranging from 25 to 35 kmph. Sea conditions around the island may be slight to moderate under the forecast conditions.

However, temporarily strong gusty winds of 60–70 kmph and very rough seas may develop during thundershowers. Fishermen, naval personnel and others engaged in maritime activities are advised to exercise caution and remain alert to sudden changes in weather and sea conditions.

With the atmospheric disturbance expected to strengthen rainy conditions across several regions, residents should monitor official weather updates and follow safety advice from relevant authorities. Extra care is recommended in areas forecast to receive intense rainfall, particularly during thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds.
