The Department of Meteorology forecasts continued rainy conditions across several parts of Sri Lanka on 27 June 2026, with showers expected at intervals in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya.
According to the latest weather forecast, showers or thundershowers may also develop at a few locations in the Uva and Eastern provinces and in the Mullaitivu district after 2.00 p.m. Residents in these areas are advised to remain alert, as isolated thunderstorms could bring temporary localized strong winds and lightning.
In addition to rainfall, fairly strong winds of 30–40 kmph are expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, the North-Central, North-Western and Southern provinces, and the Trincomalee district. The public is urged to take necessary precautions to minimize damage from falling branches, temporary structures and lightning during adverse weather.
Sea condition
Sea conditions around Sri Lanka are expected to remain unsettled over the next 24 hours. Showers or thundershowers are forecast in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle. South-westerly winds will blow at 30–40 kmph, increasing up to 50–60 kmph at times in the sea areas from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
These coastal waters are expected to be rough, while other sea areas around the island may become fairly rough at times. Wave heights between 2.0 and 3.0 metres are likely from Chilaw to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota. Swell waves may also cause sea surges along nearshore coastal areas extending from Beruwala to Matara via Galle.
Fishermen, naval operators and beachgoers are advised to exercise extreme caution, while the general public should stay updated with the latest weather advisories and avoid unnecessary risks during periods of heavy rain and strong winds.
