Showery Conditions to Persist Across Northern and Eastern Sri Lanka Over Next 36 Hours

The Department of Meteorology says prevailing showery conditions are expected to continue over the Northern and Eastern parts of the island during the next 36 hours, under the influence of an Easterly wave.
Showers are forecast to occur at times in the North-Central, Eastern, Uva and Central provinces. Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely at some locations in the Eastern, Uva and Central provinces, particularly in the Polonnaruwa district.
Several spells of showers may also affect the Northern and North-Western provinces, while showers or thundershowers are expected at several places in other parts of the island after 1.00 p.m. Fairly heavy falls above 50 mm are likely at some of these areas.
Strong winds of around 40–50 kmph can be expected at times over the eastern slopes of the central hills, as well as in the Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces, and in Trincomalee, Hambantota and Monaragala districts.
Misty conditions are likely during the early morning hours in parts of the Sabaragamuwa, Western and Central provinces, and in the Galle and Matara districts.
The general public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize possible damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
