Fairly Heavy Rainfall Expected in Southern and Sabaragamuwa Areas Over Next 36 Hours

The Department of Meteorology forecasts showery conditions across several parts of the island during the next 36 hours, with fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm likely in some areas.
According to the latest outlook, a few showers may occur in the Uva Province and in Ampara, Batticaloa, Matale, and Nuwara Eliya districts. Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are expected at several places in Galle, Matara, Kalutara, and Ratnapura districts after 2.00 p.m., with some locations likely to experience fairly heavy rainfalls above 50 mm.
Weather conditions in the remaining areas of the island are expected to be mostly dry, though misty conditions may develop during the early morning hours in parts of the Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, as well as in Kalutara, Badulla, Galle, and Matara districts.
The general public is strongly advised to take necessary precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning activity that may accompany thundershowers, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.
Motorists are urged to exercise caution in misty areas during early morning travel, while residents in rain-affected regions should remain alert to possible localized impacts.
