Marine Weather Forecast for Sri Lanka: Rough Seas and Evening Thundershowers Expected

The Department of Meteorology has issued a marine weather advisory for sea areas around Sri Lanka, warning of rough sea conditions, strong winds, and possible evening thundershowers during the next 24 hours.
Light showers are expected in the sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Pottuvil via Batticaloa. In addition, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few locations in the sea areas from Kalutara to Hambantota via Galle, particularly during the evening or night.
Winds across the surrounding sea areas will be north-easterly, with average speeds of 30–40 kmph. However, wind speeds may increase up to 50 kmph at times, especially in the sea areas from Colombo to Mannar via Puttalam and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
Due to these conditions, the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Mannar via Puttalam, as well as from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, are expected to be rough at times. Other sea areas around the island will remain moderate.
Fishermen and maritime operators are advised to exercise caution, particularly during periods of thundershowers, and remain alert to updated advisories from the Department of Meteorology.
