Weather Forecast for Sri Lanka on 20 December 2025: Showers, Strong Winds and Morning Mist Expected

The Department of Meteorology forecasts unsettled weather conditions across several parts of Sri Lanka today, with intermittent showers, fairly strong winds, and misty conditions expected in the early hours.
Several spells of showers are likely in the Eastern, Uva, and Central Provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa and Hambantota districts. These areas may experience persistent rainfall throughout the day.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may develop at a few locations in the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts, particularly after 1.00 p.m.
Fairly strong winds reaching speeds of around 40 kmph are expected at times over the eastern slopes of the central hills, Northern, North-Central, and North-Western Provinces, and in Trincomalee, Hambantota, and Monaragala districts.
The general public is advised to take adequate safety precautions to minimize possible damage from localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
