Nepal Floods: Sri Lankan Nationals Reportedly Unaffected in Gorkha District

The Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment has confirmed that no reports have been received so far of Sri Lankan nationals being affected by flooding in Nepal’s Gorkha District.

According to the Ministry, the Sri Lankan Embassy in Kathmandu is maintaining close contact with the Sri Lankan community living in Gorkha, a district in central Nepal, to monitor the developing situation.

The Embassy is also taking steps to provide Sri Lankan nationals with regular updates on conditions in the affected areas. In addition, travel advisories have been issued to Sri Lankans regarding visits to locations impacted by the flooding, the Ministry said.

Flooding reportedly struck several areas of Gorkha District again in the early hours of October 11, leaving several people missing, according to reports from Nepal.

Nepalese media have reported extensive damage caused by the floods, with numerous roads, houses and bridges destroyed. The damage has raised concerns about the safety of residents and access to affected communities.

The Sri Lankan Embassy is continuing to monitor the situation and maintain communication with Sri Lankan nationals in the district as authorities assess the impact of the flooding.

Sri Lankans currently in Nepal, particularly those planning to travel to Gorkha or nearby affected areas, are advised to follow official embassy updates and observe the travel guidance issued by the relevant authorities.

The Ministry has not reported any Sri Lankan casualties or injuries linked to the flooding as of its latest statement. Further updates may be issued as more information becomes available from Nepalese authorities and the Sri Lankan Embassy in Kathmandu.
