Sri Lanka is expected to experience unsettled weather in several areas on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, with showers and strong winds affecting parts of the country. Showers will occur at times in the Sabaragamuwa Province and in the Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Several spells of showers are also expected in the Western and North-Western provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
Fairly strong winds of around 30–40 kmph can be expected at times over the Northern, North-Central, North-Western and Southern provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee District. Residents in these areas are advised to remain cautious, particularly during periods of stronger winds.
Sea Areas Around Sri Lanka
Showers may occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle during the next 24 hours. Winds will be westerly to south-westerly, with speeds of 30–40 kmph.
Wind speeds may increase up to 50–60 kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Kankasanthurai to Kalpitiya via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. These areas will be rough at times, and naval and fishing communities are advised to remain vigilant.
The wave height may increase to around 2.0–2.5 metres in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. Fishermen and other marine communities are urged to follow weather updates and exercise caution when engaging in sea activities.
