Sri Lanka Weather Forecast for 12 August 2026: Showers and Rough Seas Expected

Sri Lanka is expected to experience a mix of rainy and unsettled weather conditions on 12 August 2026, with several areas likely to receive showers throughout the day. According to the latest weather forecast showers will occur at times in the Galle, Matara and Kalutara districts.

Several spells of showers are also expected in the Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, while Colombo, Gampaha, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts may experience intermittent rainfall. Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers could develop at a few places in the Uva Province and in Batticaloa, Ampara and Mullaitivu districts after 2.00 p.m.

The public is advised to remain cautious during thundershowers, as temporary localized strong winds and lightning may occur. People are urged to take adequate precautions to minimize possible damage and avoid exposed areas during thunderstorms.

Sea Weather Forecast for Sri Lanka

The sea areas around the island will also experience unsettled conditions during the next 24 hours. Showers may occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Winds will be south-westerly, with speeds of around 30–40 kmph. Wind speeds may increase up to 50–60 kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota and from Chilaw to Mannar via Puttalam. Winds may reach up to 45 kmph over other sea areas.

The sea areas from Matara to Pottuvil and Chilaw to Mannar are expected to be rough at times, while other sea areas will be moderate and may become fairly rough. Naval and fishing communities operating in the affected waters are advised to remain vigilant.

Wave heights could increase to approximately 2.5–3.0 metres in sea areas extending from Colombo to Pottuvil via Galle and Hambantota.
