Sri Lanka Weather Forecast for 05 August 2026: Heavy Rain, Strong Winds and Rough Seas Expected

Sri Lanka is expected to experience wet and windy weather on 05 August 2026, with showers and thundershowers affecting several parts of the country. According to the latest weather forecast, cloudy skies will prevail over the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, as well as the districts of Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara, where rain is expected at intervals throughout the day.

Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely at some locations in the Sabaragamuwa Province and in the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts. Residents in these areas should remain alert for localized flooding and reduced visibility on roads. Meanwhile, a few showers or thundershowers may develop after 2.00 p.m. in the Uva and Eastern provinces and in the Mullaittivu district.

Strong winds with speeds of 40–50 kmph are expected at times across the North-Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North-Western provinces, as well as the Trincomalee district. The public is advised to take necessary precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.

Sea Areas Forecast

Weather conditions at sea will remain hazardous during the next 24 hours. Showers or thundershowers are expected in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Colombo, Galle, Hambantota and Batticaloa.

South-westerly winds will generally range between 30–40 kmph, but are expected to strengthen to 60–70 kmph in the sea areas from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota. Winds may also increase to 50 kmph from Batticaloa to Mullaittivu via Trincomalee.

Sea conditions will be rough to very rough, particularly along the western and southern coastal waters. Naval and fishing communities are strongly advised not to venture into the affected sea areas until further notice. Strong gusty winds and very rough seas can also be expected during thundershowers.
