Showers or thundershowers are expected to affect most parts of Sri Lanka after 1.00 p.m. today, bringing widespread afternoon and evening rainfall across the island. According to the forecast, fairly heavy falls exceeding 50 mm are likely at some places in the Northern, North-central, Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Kurunegala and Trincomalee districts. Residents in these areas should remain alert for possible localized flooding and water accumulation.
In addition, a few showers are likely in the Southern Province during the morning hours, indicating unsettled weather conditions throughout the day. Early morning misty conditions are also expected in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-central and Uva provinces, along with the Kurunegala district. Motorists are advised to exercise caution due to reduced visibility during these hours.
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Sea Areas Forecast (Next 24 Hours)
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Kankasanthurai to Pottuvil via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle and Hambantota. Winds will be south-westerly with speeds of 25–35 kmph, increasing up to 45 kmph at times in the sea areas from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar. Sea conditions in these areas will be fairly rough at times, while other sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas are possible during thundershowers.
