SRI LANKA WEATHER FORECAST FOR TODAY, 02 February 2026

Weather conditions across Sri Lanka on 02 February 2026 are expected to remain unsettled, with showers affecting many parts of the island throughout the day. Several spells of showers will occur in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva, and Central provinces, as well as in the Hambantota district, resulting in cloudy skies and intermittent rainfall.

During the afternoon hours after 2.00 p.m., showers or thundershowers are likely at several places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, along with the Galle and Matara districts. At some locations, fairly heavy rainfall of around 50 mm can be expected, particularly during intense thundershower activity. These conditions may be accompanied by temporary localized strong winds and lightning, which could cause damage to property and pose risks to public safety.

In the early hours of the morning, misty conditions are expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts. Motorists are advised to exercise caution due to reduced visibility, especially in hilly and low-lying areas.

Showers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Pottuvil to Kankasanthurai via Batticaloa and Trincomalee. Additionally, showers or thundershowers may develop in other sea areas around the island, particularly during the evening or night.

Winds will be north-easterly, with speeds ranging between 25 and 35 kmph. Wind speeds may increase up to 45–50 kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Kaluthara to Mannar via Colombo and Puttalam, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil. As a result, the sea will be fairly rough at times in these regions, while other sea areas will remain moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

The general public, fishermen, and naval communities are strongly advised to take necessary precautions to minimize potential damages and ensure safety during adverse weather conditions.
