Special Weather Bulletin Issued as Easterly Wave Expected to Bring Enhanced Rainfall from 2025 December 29

The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Department of Meteorology has issued a Special Weather Bulletin, urging the public to remain vigilant as an active easterly wave is expected to affect Sri Lanka from 29 December onwards.

According to the advisory, rainy conditions are likely to intensify over several parts of the island during the following days. Areas expected to be most affected include the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva, and Central Provinces.

Meteorologists warn that the enhanced rainfall may lead to localized flooding, waterlogging, and other weather-related impacts, particularly in vulnerable regions.

The general public is strongly advised to pay close attention to future weather forecasts, warnings, and bulletins issued by the Department of Meteorology and relevant authorities, and to take early precautionary measures where necessary.
